If economy is a big deal for you, the Fiat Punto might be just the thing. Why? Because it's highly competitively priced, and boasts impressively low running costs. The 1.3L Multijet diesel, for example, will give you 80.7mpg and has CO2 emissions of 90g/km (no road tax!). But there are other engines to choose from, too, including petrol units, which are all pretty frugal. And the Punto has lots of other great features. True, some may think it's rather bland looking, and its handling and ride-quality aren't the best in its class, but the Punto is highly practical and has good safety credentials - in fact, even entry-level Pop models get four airbags as standard, while other models are available with side airbags. As to tech features, the entry-level Puntos (Pop) are pretty basic, offering electric front windows and remote central locking, and not a whole lot else. But upgrading to Easy trim will bring you features such as aircon, alloys, electric mirrors and a leather steering wheel. Go the whole hog, up to the Lounge models, and you'll benefit from an electric sunroof, Bluetooth, electric rear windows and foglights. In brief, a Punto may not be as fun to drive as some of its rivals, but it's competitively priced, practical and cheap to run. I've just brought a Fiat Punto Cabrio 1.2 16v. Â The car has an amazing torque that possibly puts a lot of bigger cars in shame on B-roads. Â It's ultra cheap to maintain and very good on petrol. Â Never buy a 1.6 as high maintenance cost. Read more

We only have the 1.2 model of the Fiat Punto and she will accelerate from traffic lights leaving more powerful cars behind. She also is huge inside. I sat on the back seat once and was amazed how far away the windscreen seemed.. Read more
